About Diploma in Make-up Artistry

Tower Bridge Beauty Academy offers the Diploma in Make-Up Artistry at its East London centre, located just a stone's throw from Tower Bridge. The Diploma in Make-up Artistry aims to prepare you for a career in beauty therapy as a make-up artist. All the units in this qualification relate directly to the specific job role of a make-up artist.

During this vocational qualification you will gain practical experience in the skills necessary for a career in beauty and specifically for a career as a make-up artist. You will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety, client care and cosmetic products and equipment. You will learn how to provide a variety of make-up products using different techniques. You will also develop interpersonal skills which are important for communicating effectively with clients.

This qualification is based on National Occupational Standards (NOS) for beauty therapy. It is recognised by the UK's leading professional association, the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) as being fit for purpose for preparing you for a career as a make-up artist. Holders of this qualification are eligible to become a professional member of BABTAC.

Units Covered

During this course you will complete 9 mandatory units and at least 1 of the 4 optional units.

  • Client Care & Communication in Beauty Related Industries

  • Promote Products and Services in a Salon

  • Display Stock to Promote Sales in a Salon

  • Apply Make-up

  • Instruction on Make-up Application

  • Fashion & Photographic Make-up

  • Design and Apply Face and Body Art

  • Media Make-up 

  • Camouflage Make-up

Entry Requirements

We will assess all applicants suitability on a case-by-case basis. Entry onto the course may be obtained through previous attainment of a Level 2 qualification in beauty therapy and/or successful completion of an English and Maths test and interview. 


This course aims to provide career development to those already in work, to equip learners not in work or working in a different sector to find work as a make-up artist or as a step towards further study in a similar subject.

Assessment Methods

During this course you will be assessed through various assessments, multiple choice theory exams, evidence portfolio and workbooks. Also, a 90% attendance is required to pass the course due to the intensity and course length.



This course is delivered at our Tower Bridge Centre with attendance for classes being required two days a week 10:00 - 16:00 or if you choose the Group B option one day a week 10:00 - 16:00. 

Our expert course tutor will guide you through the course and our centre is equipped with everything you need to be able to complete assignments and undertake independent study, including computers and laptops. 

All learners receive a FREE set of professional make-up brushes which are theirs to keep on completion of the course.

Learners are required to bring their own models some days in order for them to complete practical elements of the course.
